Fabulous Firsts
The Contra Costa Chamber Orchestra, Geoffrey Gallegos, Music Director and Conductor, presents an afternoon delight of Fabulous Firsts! The concert opens with Gioacchino Rossini’s sparkling and energetic overture to his most famous, popular, and first opera of significant importance, and arguably the greatest masterwork of the Italian opera buffa (comic opera) genre, Il barbiere di Siviglia (The Barber of Seville.) The First Cello Concerto of Camille Saint-Saëns, featuring Federico Strand Ramirez, follows in all its virtuosic, dramatic, and lyrically elegant rhetoric. This is Mr. Strand Ramirez’s first appearance as soloist with the CCCO. Following intermission, the concert concludes with the Symphony No. 1 by Ludwig van Beethoven, the great titan’s first of nine masterworks in this genre that profoundly influenced all symphonic music that came after.
This concert also marks the first time that the CCCO will perform at the California Theatre. Don’t miss this musical treat of Fabulous Firsts!
